Bio: Retired from CAMSLANT in 1979. He and spouse, Ellie, of 54 years[July 2004] still in Norfork area. They have four grand kids [Nov 2003] and have traveled to Switzerland, Italy, Germany, France, and Wales and London during the past few years as well as around the USA. In Nov 2003 kids had gotten him a lap-top to keep up with family and the grand kids so he could not keep with the old Navy gang too. Guess Bob will be 86 in June 2005.
BH Memory: Bob got me first copy of ACP121 which Bill & Joe seemed to want to hide from us programmers, maybe protect us from the dogma of message processing? He could not join us at the Y2K reuion as hia children taking them on a 50th wedding aniversary trip to Switzerland.
Transferred to NAVCOSSACT Jul 69 for school; stayed as
an instructor; and then transferred to LDMX in 70 or 71
when the school closed. Site rep to bring up Norfolk
NAVCOMPARS (73); then to Alaska to finish out my Navy
tour (74). Returned for a couple of years as a civilian
contractor (75-77), and then off to private industry.
Most recently laid off from Sprint (01), and relocated
to Florida (03) with my 2nd wife (the same woman I was
at the reunion with, if you remember her; we've lasted
5.5 years so far ;)

my inheritance from my father and bought a chain of auto
glass shops here in Florida. So far, I'm not making any
significant money, but I have good reason to hope that will
change in the not-to-distant future.
Its interesting to get back to running my own business once
again (I did it for a while in the early 1980s). But the
hassles of having all the employees depend on you for their
paychecks every week can get to you after a while.
Anyway, if I ever do get to retire, at least I'm already
moved to Florida. :D

Passed 05 Dec 2005 - BH spoke with "Big Al's" son, "Butch", on Mon 23 Oct 2006 in Centerville Va. He told me that Al passed last December, Al had kept few addresses so unable to alert us. Al had really enjoyed the last eight years before passing. He had gotten a trailer and camped all over the USA and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Preious Last Word: 18 Aug 03 -- I too have type 2 diabetes. Taking [medications] to control blood sugar. Keeps my readings in check. Walking 3 times a day helps I'm sure. San Diego climate is great. I can wear shorts every day and breeze from the Pacific keeps it from getting too hot. I had a TIA about two yrs. ago and the Doc didn't tell me to take a blood thinner. Then I had a stroke 6 months later. No strength in my left arm and leg. Can use both now after rehab and daily exercises. You can bet I don't miss a dose of [medication] twice daily to keep the blood flowing without blockage.
Bio: Retired from LANT in the eighties lived in Mexico for a while then moved to San Diego CA. Nick suffered mild stroke in 2001 and has type 2 diabetes. Walking 3 times a day helps. I can wear shorts every day and breeze from the Pacific keeps it from getting too hot.
Last Word: 12 Jul 05 Floyd living in Spain. He retired from State and bought a house in small village outside Barcelona. ... I plan on going as soon as things settle down some.

BH Memory: It 5 Oct 06 now, lets see - John took over NAVCOMPARS a bit after the Guam isntallation as Bill and Joe were off on some project - dipsisy or such - gave me a fit over the bit settings in CINALL or wahatever - upset me one time (weel couple times) when I was a bit loud on the TD and Directors meeting every three months to fix a six month plan. Left us for an Army job (of all things, but what do you expect from an Air Force person) in Petagon. Years are gone from my memory now.

Let me know if this is the ole devil himself. C U Ken Bio: - Retired Jan 1985 from NAVTELCOM though offices at Cheltenham and in a reorg may have been part of NTSIC at retirement. He and Shirley (wife and partner of 52 years as of Feb 06 still reside in Waldorf MD. They are still playing a bit of golf and usually take yearly trips to Scotland to Shirley's folks, Texas to sen Ken's, and daughter in LA. They have four grand children and one great grandson in Dec 03. In Feb 05 said, "... at 75 I'm still active and traveling a bit. It’s the good life I've led thanks to my Bride of 53+ years."
Ken Memory: Bob, Yes I knew and liked John Howard, in fact we (Clapsaddle) worked for him for a couple of years. You forget that we were part of the original group of NTSIC, we were the only two communicators in the group, the rest were non-communications programmers types. In fact I received the "Ship's Plank" when I retired, I was the last of the original group, all the rest had fallen by the wayside. Originally there were only about 10 or 12 of us assigned to NTSIC, when Dick Lynch took over and pulled us together as a group.

Last Word: 08 Jul 05 ... hope you had a happy 4th. I enjoy reading Navy News. We will miss Cindy's next lunch (we will be camping in Pennsylvania. Hope to see you in August. --Ruth In 15 June lunch photos Bio: I began working for NAVTELSYSIC in Cheltenham, MD in 1980. I worked with Message Processing And Distribution System (MPDS) until we moved to WNY in 1995. From 1995 to 2000 I worked with Bobbie Hannah on the NAVMACS/CUDIXS systems. Since retirement in 2000 my husband Steve Swart and I have been travelling quite a bit. We have also travelled cross country a couple of times. Once going across Canada then down to Montana and another year we took the southern route (Interstate 10) to California. We usually spend the winter months in our travel trailer in Florida (usually Key West) and the summer months up north (Maine or Canada). When we are home (which isn't too often) we spend much of the time working out and also doing minor and major home repairs.
Last Word: 18 Jul 05I am still working for the Washington State Department of Corrections in Olympia, I am now the supervisor of our legacy team about 8 employees and 7 contractors. I'll probably retire in about 4 to 5 years and in the meantime we spend our free time either with a local camera club or camping in our trailer.
I enjoy hearing from Bob and learning how folks are getting along. I enjoyed working with everyone on the project, and really enjoyed the camaraderie on our installations. I am saddened that so many good people are no longer with us, many hold special places in my memories.
Bio: I began with NAVCOSSACT at the Navy Yard, I think in 76, working for Don Akers supporting the Pentagon and Crystal Plaza's old LDMX system. I was with CSC at that time. I took part in the installation of LDMX/NAVCOMPARS at Crystal Plaza, Hampton Roads, and two sites in Hawaii and at some point during that time frame became the site rep at Crystal Plaza. Later I went to London to give the last class room training we did. I also went to Guam and Roosevelt Roads.
In July of 1980 I switched to CDSI and went to Bangor as a site rep, returning to DC one time to help in some testing. I remained at Bangor until they turned it off in 94. Sometime after that I ended up working for the Washington State Department of Corrections in Olympia. I had to start at entry level but kept moving up until now I supervise the team I was hired to work on. That's as high as I'm going though because I am more interested in retirement than anything a career could offer.
My two kids are both grown, one still lives back near Bremerton and the other north of Seattle. I've got two grandchildren, a grown young woman and an 8 year old boy. You can't live in this part of the country and not get into camping. We spent a lot of time in tents, sleeping on the ground, then two years ago we bought a trailer and have been "camping" pretty comfortably since. We are talking of trading up on retirement and camp permanently.[July 2005]
Deceased -- Around 1992, she passed about a year after she retired, I think.

Last Word: 19 Jan 05 Not much changed with me. Still in same job on same project. Continue to run ultramarathons (9 last year, 1 so far this year 2006). We are planning a summer vacation to Wyoming in conjunction with a 100 mile run this summer.
Luanne is doing well with her psychology practice. She is currently recovering from a broken wrist caused by black ice in mid-December.
Our daughter is back living at home and currently working on job hunting. --Bill
Bio: Still orking for CACI - (10th anniversary in September 2003) as Chief Engineer on project to develop web-based budget systems for government clients. In my off time I am still doing a lot of running (races of 10 miles, 50K, 50 miles, 100 miles), and marathons.
We are living in Centreville, VA. My wife, Luanne, has been working on her Psychology practice in her home office and in a group practice in Sterling.
Our daughter, Alexis, finished her master's degree in Women's Studies and is currently working for the Maryland Commission for Women and living in Annapolis. She is working on joining the Navy by applying for OCS.

Bio: Started in 1978 in Building 196 fresh out of the Navy at NAVCOSSACT and was hired by Stonie Glenn to work for Don Jochum, I began operating the 70/45 system on the second deck moved up to develop test software (somewhere I still have the program sheets) for RIXT under Joe Kelly. Then joined the RIXT hardware acceptance team hitching my reigns to Dick Crum to learn (and learn I did). Next developed software for Dr El Sabban on the Performance Evaluation System (PES) under Big Al Spadatto in
Building 157, The Tower. When we moved to Cheltenham building 31 I worked with Bob Hinson, Anita Dungan, and Don Hamlin on the SCATS conversion to the VAX. Did that until Bob could not take me anymore and "passed" me to TELCOM at Nebraska Ave. At CNTC, replaced the Trash-80 systems with the Zenith 100's then to Zenith 248s. Then given responsibility to install the first Local Area Network, creating and heading the LAN shop until the dreaded NMCI took over. Now merged with Space Command as NNSOC in Dalhgren VA; where I run a division responsible for all Navy OCONUS Networks and Fleet Networks. Five and a half years to retirement and move to Las Vegas.
